YODAAI Scholarship Program

Consistent with our broader vision, the YODAAI Scholarship Program (YSP) has been established to support the education of Alabama residents or children of Alabama residents. YSP awards are scholarships in the amount of $1,000 per year to graduating high-school seniors in Alabama to attend an accredited public or private four-year college/university in Alabama or nationally.

 

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a graduating senior at a high school in Alabama.

  • Must be an Alabama resident or child of an Alabama resident.

  • Must be a member of a federally recognized underserved/underrepresented minority group in the U.S.

  • Not related to a member of YODAAI.

  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.

  • Must enroll full-time at an accredited public or private four-year college/university in 2021/2022.

  • Must demonstrate financial need.

 

Application Materials and Submission

Application must be completed and submitted online (click here to apply)

The following materials are required:

  • Completed and signed application form

  • Official high school transcript.

  • Copy of SAT or ACT score report.

  • Written Essay (on a topic related to community development, human capacity building or inclusion/diversity; essay must include a statement on the applicant’s financial need; limit to 2 typed pages).

  • Two letters of recommendation (at least one letter must be from an academic advisor).

 

Selection Criteria and Process

All scholarship applications will be reviewed by a selection committee. YODAAI Scholars will be selected based on the overall quality of the application materials submitted, including academic merit, financial need, letters of recommendation, and quality of written essay. The selection committee may select and invite a group of shortlisted applicants for interviews (possibly by video). YODAAI Scholars may be invited to the annual banquet of YODAAI for scholarship presentation and recognition.

 

Timeline for 2021

  • December 15, 2020 – Application opens online 

  • June 15, 2021 – Scholarship application closes

  • June – July 2021 – Screening of applications and interviews

  • July – August 2021 – Scholarship recipients notified; Cash award disbursed

  • December 2021 – Scholarship presentations/recognitions at YODAAI annual banquet

 

Scholarship Conditions

Scholarships will be disbursed directly to the recipient’s educational institution. Upon notification of selection, scholarship recipients must provide documentation to confirm full-time enrollment in an accredited four-year college/university before cash awards can be disbursed.
